How are you guys storing your firearms around your kids? Back to Forums

I have a few pistols and a rifle or two. I currently don't have a safe large enough for storage of the rifles, so I'm looking to get a little advice on how everyone is securing their rifles with littles ones around. Thanks in advance!

Depends on how educated your kids are with firearm safety. I always say start them young! I’m assuming by your context you’ve got a safe, or atleast a safe container for your handhelds, I’d recommend storing rifles unloaded on the top shelf of a closet until you get a proper safe.

Always starts with teaching them young that they’re a tool, not a toy etc. If it’s not a rifle you’re keeping loaded for home defense, then top shelf and unloaded/lock is best. If it’s for home defense, that’s a little trickier. My thoughts would be bolt locked back, safety on of course, and mounted up under the bed frame. Not an expert on that, and no kids so probably others more knowledgeable there
